Don't Go Hungry: A Food Support Program - Saturday distribution
We acknowledge the land on which we work and serve and give thanks to the Coast Salish people, in particular the QayQayt
First Nation and hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking people, for their stewardship of these lands over the milennia.
We appreciate their willingness to share their wisdom with how to live in harmony with the land and it's inhabitants.
Feeding Community
We want to spread our message of hope and compassion. We believe that a single action can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can impact the world.
Our program is for anyone in New Westminster and Burnaby who needs food support.
Some might work mid-week full-time and be unable to access other food support programs that operate on weekdays. Others may be unemployed or underemployed and trying to make their dollars stretch. Many have never needed this type of support before. But food support may help pay rent, or allow other bills to be paid.
Together we can help lighten the load, if only for a little while.
We provide free grocery hampers every Saturday at four locations for anyone in need.
Effective October 5, 2024, the following rules will be in place at all DGH locations:
-
Burnaby residents can only visit the Burnaby-Edmonds food program.
-
New Westminster residents can only visit one of the three New Westminster locations per week.
-
Only those living in Burnaby and New Westminster will be served at any DGH locations.
*Note: Clients attending New Westminster locations please arrive at the location about 45 minutes to 1 hour before distribution to get on the list.

"Helping out at Don't Go Hungry helped me stay sober throughout the pandemic. I needed to give back and think of others. A real life line!"

A neighbour was giving out money to people in the lineup. After he left, I gave to someone who had missed out. It felt right to keep generosity going."
From the beginning, we have been supported by a generous and compassionate community. Without the involvement of our community partners, none of this would be possible. These include the Rotary Clubs of New Westminster, Vancouver Foundation, Vancity Credit Union, United Way Lower Mainland, the City of Vancouver, the City of New Westminster, Trinity Presbyterian Church (formerly Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Aidan's Presbyterian Church, Gordon Presbyterian,) Save On Foods, Buy-Low Foods, the New Westminster Homelessness Coalition Society, Fraser Health, Dan's Legacy, the New Westminster Soccer Club, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Urban Impact Recycling, local schools, and volunteers from Century House Seniors Center, "Helping Hands New Westminster" community, ReFood, and local businesses. We thank in particular Align Construction who have partnered with us by generously donating materials and labour to renovate the St. Aidan's Food Hub storage and donated a fridge and standup freezer. We thank the Greater Vancouver Food bank, Omicron, the Firefighters of New Westminster, and Telus Ambassadors for your support! Thanks most recently for the support of the New Westminster Rotary, Food Banks of BC
and the United Way (May, 2023)
As our list of partners grows, so does our ability to serve the community.
